Recognize these people? Who doesn't? Everyone loves superheroes who fight crime, protect people, and save the day. But, did you know that these amazingly strong heroes have origins in the Greek world?
The Olympian Gods.
There are twelve Olympian Gods: Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Hera, Hermes, Apollo, Artemis, Athena, Ares, Hephaestus, and Aphrodite.
There are similarities between some of these Olympian Gods and modern day superheroes. The most obvious superhero adaptations include ones with Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Athena and Hera.

Zeus and Superman.
Both, Zeus and Superman are born leaders.
Zeus is the king of the gods and the god of the sky. In many Greek mythological stories, he is said to have descended onto the mortal world to see how places were ruled. He used to punish vain and unjust kings. This is very similar to the well known hero; Superman. Superman is said to have super speed and strength, much like Zeus. Both, the god and hero value justice and feel at peace when in the sky.

Poseidon and Aquaman.
You knew this was coming, right?
The similarities between Poseidon and Aquaman tell us that the main inspiration of this superhero was the god of the seas.
For one, they both use a trident as a weapon. Secondly, both of them can talk to fish and other marine animals. And thirdly, they can brew up massive storms. Both of them are said to have a carefree attitude most of the time, although when angered, they can become really scary and brew up massive storms.

Hades and Batman.
Hades, the god of the underworld, is said to have some striking similarities with Batman.
Hades and Batman, both live underground and the latter gets some (or most) of his energy from riches. Hades is the god of riches too, because minerals and precious jewels come from underground.
Also, just like Hades is not really trusted by his Olympian family, Batman is often kept outside the JLA circle for the same reason. They both value justice and in turn, decide the fate of dammed souls.

Hera, Athena, and Wonder woman.
Hera is compared to the modern day superhero, Wonder woman.
Both of them protect their home and family and defend their loved ones. Hera is the Queen of the gods and believes in families and marriage, although, she is quite often accused of only believing in 'perfect' families. Both of them can be angered easily and become vengeful.
Wonder woman is also frequently compared to the warrior goddess of war fare, wisdom, and useful arts; Athena. Athena believes in the freedom of women and in knowledge and intelligence. She is very careful with the decisions she makes and is amazing at making strategies.
If you get any of them on your bad side...may the gods be with you.
